The Shoreham Sluggers Take the Field

Members of the Shoreham Sluggers baseball team get ready for the gameAt the annual Shoreham Sluggers’ baseball game, the main goal is to have fun. If everyone has fun, the Shoreham Sluggers win!

And fun was certainly had on April 23 at Spring Opening Day bringing together people who live and work across Shoreham’s Intermediate Care Facility (ICF).

In baseball caps and their favorite team’s gear, baseball players enjoyed an afternoon of supportive baseball.

“A lot of us are very competitive,” said Mary Gilleran, Director of the Shoreham ICF. “We decided, let’s have a Spring Opening Day. Everyone plays together, and everyone just has fun.”

The baseball field was set up in the Shoreham parking lot. With Mary playing catcher, an adjustable batting tee and plastic wiffle ball were placed at home plate for all who want to take a swing. Orange cones marked first, second and third bases.

Once everyone had a chance to bat, many elected to bat again, sending the ball out into the field and quickly making their way through the bases with accompanying staff. Players cheered each other on and together, many sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
