An Exciting Start to the Baseball Season

Lizzie Grogan and Jamie Allen, roommates at the Pickwick Drive residence in Syosset, and Pamela Iliou, Assistant Manager, were excited to mark the beginning of yet another baseball season at Citi Field in Queens.
Lizzie, Jamie, and Pamela saw the New York Mets defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 28.
Both Lizzie and Jamie are huge baseball fans—Lizzie cheers on the New York Yankees, while Jamie roots for the Mets. Regardless of which team is playing, Lizzie and Jamie enjoy the experience of attending games together. All week, they enjoy talking about their weekend plans.
Lizzie said, “I like it when they get the strikeouts, because then you get to see the umpire saying ‘Out.’”
Jamie’s love of the game grew from watching baseball with her grandfather, while Lizzie’s came from serving as catcher on her high school softball team. Both have strong ties to the game and their communities.
Lizzie explained about the game, “I understand it really quite well.”
On the way to games, the three enjoy listening to the radio and talking about baseball, building anticipation for the day.
“Jamie talks about us going there as we’re driving,” Pamela said. “We always talk about Lizzie being a catcher in high school.”
In addition to taking in the game, Lizzie and Jamie enjoy being at the stadium.
Hot dogs are their favorite stadium food, and in quieter moments at the game, they like to browse the gift shop. On this visit, Jamie picked out a Mr. Met plushie.
With spring here and summer on its way, there will be other games for Jamie and Lizzie to enjoy. They keep up with their teams by watching the games on television, and they even follow stats during the offseason by watching YouTube videos that Pamela shares.
Pamela added, “I like baseball myself, so it gives me a chance to go to the games. It’s the whole atmosphere that I like.”
