Camp Loyaltown Session 1 Starts A Wonderful Summer Season

It was a bittersweet Father’s Day afternoon at the Children’s Education Center building in Brookville, as families and campers said goodbye for now, and boarded a bus headed for Camp Loyaltown in Hunter, New York.

Everyone has been waiting for this day, as camp is always a time to experience new activities, meet new friends, and make new memories.

Camp Loyaltown Session 1 campers and staff show off their musclesTommy Splitaleri, a Session 1 Camper who has been attending camp for nine years, has been preparing for this day for weeks. Most of all, he looks forward to seeing his camp buddies, including Unit Head Dirang Stephens Mataboge.

“He loves the water, he loves to watch the mountains, he loves the campfires, making smores,” said Tommy’s mother Francine Spitaleri. “Camp has brought Tommy a whole new world of fun and friends from all over the world.”

In fact, throughout the year Tommy Facetimes with his camp buddies and sends and receives gifts via the mail.

Isaiah Holt, who has been attending the camp for 14 years, will be staying for two sessions this year. Every year he enjoys going to camp, and one of his favorite activities is swimming in the pool. He also enjoys the food.

Marilyn Holt, Isaiah’s mother, said she hopes that this year, Isaiah will build friendships and gain a sense of independence.

As the campers headed up to camp, there was so much fun waiting for them. Camp counselors, who have traveled from all over the world on a J-1 Visa, meant for people to participate in work-study visitor programs, cheered and celebrated as the buses pulled into the campgrounds.

Among the activities that will be available to campers each session is participating in a Music, Dance and Drama showcase; a Creative Arts corner for campers to create mementos to take home; Therapeutic Arts in the form of animal care and gardening; a fully stocked Athletic Program; an Adaptive Swimming Pool; and a Sensory Room staffed by a Behavior Team.
