A Holiday Night Out at The Sterling
Celebrating the season, men and women supported by Citizens Options Unlimited and AHRC Nassau Residential Services embraced the holiday spirit on Dec. 11 with a festive evening of music, dancing, and dining at The Sterling in Bethpage.
A cherished tradition organized by Community Outreach Liaison Lynne Brewer, the annual holiday party was made even more magical with a special appearance by Santa Claus, delighting guests and adding to the night’s joyful atmosphere.
Noah Ackereizen, who resides at Carol Street in W. Hempstead, called the evening “exquisite, different, conspicuous, and special.”
Standing in line for the dinner buffet, Noah said he was especially happy that evening because his birthday was right around the corner. He was looking forward to getting on the dance floor after dinner.
“It’s a night out for the people we support, and they deserve a night out,” Lynne said, adding that she enjoys seeing people happy.
Welcoming A Surprise Guest
As everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner with housemates and staff at their table, Lynne went up to the front of the dance floor dressed up as Mrs. Claus.
“Is everyone having a good time?” Lynne asked the crowd, who cheered in response. “Okay, but I’m going to make it better. Because guess what? Can you guess? Who am I missing? Who should be standing next to me?”
“Santa Claus!” the crowd cheered.
That’s when Santa Claus walked into the Sterling Ballroom to the song “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.” Mr. Claus was immediately greeted by excited guests who wanted to meet him and give him a hug.
“And that’s what it’s all about,” Lynne remarked.
Santa then went to one of the two photo booths for pictures, where a long line formed of people excited to get a photo with Santa.
As guests got their pictures taken, the party carried on. The dance floor was lively as friends danced with glow sticks and light-up glasses. Old and new friends caught up and wished each other happy holidays, and memories were made.
