Director of Residential Services Jerry Powers Celebrates His Upcoming Retirement
It was a poignant late morning and afternoon at the Brookville mansion on December 17 as colleagues gathered to say farewell to Director of Residential Services Jerry Powers, who will be retiring at the start of 2025. Stepping into the role is former AHRC Nassau Director of Residential Services Deanna Allen.
“This is truly a bittersweet moment as we gather to celebrate the incredible career of someone who has made such a lasting impact on our team and the people we support,” said Citizens Options Unlimited CEO Stanfort Perry, adding that Jerry’s work ethic is “unmatched.”
Attending the retirement party was the dedicated team who worked alongside Jerry to ensure people who receive residential support from Citizens are safe, healthy and empowered.
This team included leadership, residential managers, assistant directors, nurses, clinical and direct care staff. During the speeches, ahead of the delicious catered lunch from Wheatley Farms, it was evident that Jerry’s ability to maintain empathy and focus, even during moments of stress, impressed and impacted his colleagues. Glen Cove’s Red Spring Lane residence Manager Christine Basile remarked that Jerry always had time for her, even if it was a tough day for him.
“He always makes me feel valued, not only as a colleague, but as a part of this organization and the people we support,” Christine said. “That’s the mark of a true leader.”
Throughout the party, Jerry received gifts, including a plaque from the Red Spring Lane residence to remember the roommates and staff by. Additionally, Jerry received a star registered with his name to reflect the way he shined at Citizens.
A fan of the British television series, “Doctor Who,” Jerry’s party included a themed cake and other decorations.
With an adventure in Florida awaiting Jerry as he leaves this chapter of his life behind, it is our hope he looks back at his 26 years with us with pride. In honor Jerry’s care and impact, the Citizens Walk Team will proudly carry forward the name “Powers Walkers,” ensuring his legacy continues to inspire us all.
