Citizens Options Unlimited honored staff members celebrating 10 to 40 years of service during milestone events held April 29 and May 5 at the Brookville mansion, recognizing decades of dedication to supporting people with developmental disabilities and families.
“Reaching such milestones speaks volumes about your passion, your resilience, and the positive impact you have on our community each and every day,” said Stanfort Perry, CEO. “These hundreds of years of combined service reflect a journey filled with teamwork, growth, and countless moments of inspiration.”
On April 29, staff marking 10 and 15 years of service were honored at a celebratory brunch, while a second event on May 5 recognized staff of 20, 25, 35, and 40 years of service with an evening dinner.
For many employees, the relationships built over decades are what continues to inspire them to remain in the field.
“You get to know people throughout the years, and people stay because there is that connectivity that we have, and it’s a beautiful thing,” said Deanna Allen, Director of Residential Services, who is celebrating 25 years with the family of organizations. “Everyone is looking out for one another, that’s what keeps me here.”
Among those recognized for 40 years of service were April Pekrul, Assistant Director, and Kathleen Anderson, Direct Care, from Shoreham Intermediate Care Facility, Kathleen trained April when she first joined the organization.
“The people definitely have kept us here for 40 years,” April said. “There’s something different every day.”
Over the years, April noted, the needs of those they support have evolved and staff members like herself and Kathleen have adapted as well.
“You just get to love them,” Kathleen said. “They become part of your family.”
Stanfort reflected that while much has changed over the years, the commitment of staff members has remained constant.
“Because of your hard work, because of your passion, our family of organizations stands as a leader in delivering high-quality supports and services,” Stanfort said. “You are the secret ingredient behind every success story, every smile, and every moment we make a difference.”
